Woman Knifed in Birmingham Bus Shelter Attack Succumbs to Injuries

A woman who was stabbed to her neck area in an unprovoked attack at a bus stop in Birmingham has died, police have confirmed.

The victim, who was 34, came under attack in Smallbrook Queensway, just outside Bullring shopping complex, shortly before 9 PM GMT on Friday, West Midlands Police said.

Djeison Rafael, twenty-one, appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court Monday morning, facing charges for the violent incident.

Originally charged of attempted murder however after the victim's passing the charge has been updated to murder.

Law Enforcement Actions

The force said police personnel will remain in the downtown area on Monday to offer reassurance, and investigators were supporting the victim's relatives.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses who might have observed the accused, who is described as a Black British national, reportedly dressed in grey athletic wear, black hat, athletic shoes with a backpack.

Attack Site Details

The knife attack occurred outside the Bullring shopping centre, across from primary access point of New Street railway station.

Law enforcement confirmed they classified it as "unprovoked attack" and Det Insp James Nix said they were working to understand why it happened.

Witness Accounts

Shalini Doal, employed in the vicinity, recounted the emergency response after completing her shift at about 22:00 Friday night.

She described the scene as extremely disorderly, adding that co-workers reported hearing loud disturbances around 9 PM.

"A lot of co-workers use transit services, ride the tramline... our security is compromised essentially, here in the city centre."

Ashley Birks, twenty-five, resident of Stoke, mentioned visiting the city fairly regularly visiting his partner who lives in the city, and was concerned regarding the incident.

"It makes me worried about my partner," he stated.

"She lacks transportation and works at major concert locations... and to think something completely unprovoked occurred, understandably, it's terrible."
