Shocking Footage Shows Point Police Suffer Blade Attacks in Ambush
One senior officer who rushed to the assistance of a partner who was ambushed by a knifeman has been awarded the King's Commendation for Courage.
Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against 27-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he pressed a knife to the throat of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown launched his attack as the law enforcement personnel and their colleague, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist after a traffic accident in Whalley Range in summer 2023.
Brown attacked with blade both Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a electric weapon.
"Officer stabbed," the officer was heard to say over his radio.
Bodyworn and dashboard camera video made public by the police department revealed Brown, who was dressed in dark clothing with a hood covering head, rush to Sgt Foster from behind with a blade outstretched.
He ran into the policeman who lost balance and went down to the pavement, before Sergeant Ansell jumped in and struggled to restrain him to the floor despite being continually attacked with the knife.
Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and sought a safe opportunity, concluding the struggle to an conclusion.
Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "I need help on my neck now, I've been stabbed in the neck."
Sergeant Ansell sustained two open wounds to his neck and more injuries to his arms and body, whereas Sergeant Foster received cut injuries.
Authorities stated Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to stop his partner's blood loss prior to emergency responders reached the scene.
The latest award comes after the law enforcement team received internal Courage Honors in fall 2023 and the police federation award from the local officer association in early 2024.
They further earned a North West Courage Honor in July 2024.
"The efforts of each policeman in the end protected each other and resulted in no civilians endured any wounds."
Brown was given to an secure medical confinement in April 2024, according to the department.
